ABOUT THE MAKER
Ashley Metzgar is the maker behind Metz Made, which started in Grand Rapids, Michigan and moved to France in 2022. She is based in Paris, living and working in the right bank, making from a shared ceramics studio in the 8eme. She also works as a freelance graphic designer for Salted Butter Studio, a visual design group based in France.

Ashley first experimented with ceramics in 2021 amid covid, where she learned how to throw and hand-build during a series of socially distanced classes at her local studio. After a few months, she fell in love with the art of wheel thrown ceramics and has been working on her craft ever since. Europe has taught her how to take pride in the slow-life of an artist, enjoying the process of experimentation along the journey.
ABOUT THE WORK
Most of Metz Made pieces are hand thrown on the pottery wheel. Some are hand built or use a combination of the two techniques. All pieces focus on creating something that will bring you a bit of joy with each use.
You'll notice a variety of styles throughout her work, as she is always experimenting with new colors, painting styles, and carving techniques. Some Metz Made work explores the natural contrast that mixing various clay bodies can provide, and often these raw qualities shine through on a finished piece using only transparent glazes for durability. Other pieces feature intricate carvings adding texture and bursts of color where the clay has been taken away. Additionally some pieces cross into a whimsical space with bold colors or sculptural elements.
Everything is made with high fired stoneware clay and food safe glazes. Pieces are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe but it is recommended that they are hand washed to ensure they can last a lifetime.

Ashley invites you to explore her collections and discover the beauty of imperfection within something created by hand. It's an honor that these pieces become a part of your life and she is truly thankful you've chosen to invest in buying handmade.
